Garth’s Generations Presentation
Garth’s mother was a four year old girl living near Paris when the Germans invaded. He tells her story of arrest, imprisonment, and years of hiding in orphanages before ultimately seeking a new life in the Unites States. Many French people took great risks to hide Jewish children and her story is just one example of a tapestry of resistance.

About Garth
Garth Jones was born in California, raised in Kansas, but has lived in Pittsburgh so long that he thinks of himself as a local. He started his professional life doing research in chemistry but for many years has run a small custom woodworking business. When he is not busy crafting furniture he studies and teaches the Japanese martial art of Aikido. He joined the Generations speakers group in 2025 and is eager to tell his mother’s story to keep the history of the Holocaust alive.
