The Holocaust Education Patch Program is appropriate for Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Girl Scouts (6th-12th grade) and contains numerous activities that Girl Scouts can partake in to earn the the patch. It is up to the discretion of troop leaders to choose the path they would like their troop to take. Girl Scouts have varying degrees of maturity, so it is important for troop leaders to evaluate the curriculum and activities to judge whether or not it is appropriate for their troop.

The curriculum was developed and approved within a strict Girl Scout curricular format. While the curriculum itself may not be changed, troops may use locally available resources to fulfill required activities, provided the learning objectives and structure of the curriculum are maintained.

If you are not affiliated with Girl Scouts but are interested in participating in this program, please email Julia at jgaetano@hcpgh.org.

Steps to Participate

Step 1: Review the curriculum below and decide if this patch program is a good fit for your troop.

It’s important for troop leaders to read and complete the Pre-program Prep section of the curriculum. Due to the sensitivity of the subject, it is suggested that troop leader(s) speak with the troop’s parents ahead of time and/or share the curriculum with parents to determine whether or not they feel their troop member is ready to pursue this patch. A permission slip is included in the Pre-program Prep section of the curriculum. Please note that this program is appropriate for Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Girl Scouts (6th-12th grade).

Step 2: Please fill out this form to let us know that you intend to participate in the program. This helps us to anticipate the volume of requests for patches and prepare accordingly!

Step 3: Work through the curriculum with your troop, completing activities in the Discover, Connect, and Take Action portions.

There are a variety of activities to choose from in the Connect and Take Action phases of the program, allowing troop leaders to tailor the experience to their troop. These options allow troops everywhere to participate! A summary of activity requirements and additional resources can be found here.

Step 4: Once you’ve completed the curriculum, fill out this form to request patches for participants who have fulfilled the requirements of the program.

Please note that while the program is free, troops must purchase the patches and cover shipping.
