Ilsa’s Story: A Personal History of the Holocaust

Ilsa Dahl Cole was born in 1916 in northwest Germany. She was raised in a small farming community and attended a Catholic high school before the Nazis rose to power in 1933. Ilsa’s granddaughter, Emily Loeb (Director of Programs & Education at the Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh), tells her story of survival and immigrating to America, sharing Ilsa’s reflections of a changing society as antisemitism spread throughout Germany.
