The Holocaust Education Patch Program is designed so that Girl Scouts and other participants can take part no matter where they are located! The Holocaust Museum and Tolerance Center (HMTC) is partnering with the Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh to support troops and other groups working to earn the patch on Long Island.

HMTC offers the following opportunities that can be used to fulfill certain program components:
Connect Activities
Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts (and other participants grade nine through adult) must complete one Connect activity in addition to Connect cards. HMTC offers the following opportunities to fulfill this requirement:
- You can plan a visit to tour HMTC’s museum exhibit. It features multiple galleries that take you on a journey through history, from life before the Holocaust to its aftermath and the valuable lessons we can learn from it. Fees apply.
- A member of HTMC’s Speakers Bureau can present to your troop or or other group.
Take Action Activities
All participants must complete one Take Action activity. HMTC offers the following opportunities to fulfill this requirement:
- HMTC can help participants create an educational display.
- Participants can organize for a speaker to present to a larger group (e.g. at school, to a public audience a local library, etc).
- Participants can volunteer at HMTC.
Connect and Take Action Projects
HMTC offers projects that fulfill both the Connect and Take Action components:
Bondi’s Brother
This project provides students with copies of “Bondi’s Brother”, a memoir written by Holocaust survivor Irving Roth. Troop leaders will be supplied with curriculum materials based on Roth’s memoir, including excerpts, quotes, and background information. After engaging with Roth’s experiences on-site in HMTC’s permanent exhibition, troops can read his memoir and create pieces based on their reflections, including poems, journal entries, or an even larger project.
Kindertransport Clothespin Project
In support of the New York State educational mandate on Holocaust education, The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center and the Kindertransport Clothespin Project created a curriculum unit on the Kindertransport and the Rescue of 10,000 children during the Holocaust. This project includes a complimentary educational packet which contains:
- A lesson plan outlying how to utilize the resources in the Kindertransport Clothespin Project
- A summary of the Kindertransport relief effort with discussion questions
- Narratives of three HMTC Kindertransport survivors
- Bibliography of resources for the troop leader and scouts
- Online resources for engagement and instruction
- Troop copy of the book “Nicky and Vera” by Peter Sis and “10,000 Children” by
- Anne L. Fox
- Reader’s Theater of the picture book “Nicky and Vera”
