October 27, 2018

On October 27, 2018, a mass shooting occurred at the Tree of Life * Or L’Simcha Congregation building in Pittsburgh, PA, while three congregations were gathered for Shabbat morning services. Eleven people were killed and six were injured.

It is the deadliest attack on the Jewish community in the United States.

The Pittsburgh community joined together to strongly condemn the attack as well as stand together with neighbors of many faiths to state that we are not defined by antisemitism.

At the same time, the greater Pittsburgh community joined with local organizations and those outside of the Pittsburgh area to assess the community’s short-term and long-term needs. Local leaders met with staff from other resiliency centers around the country to gather lessons learned and best practices. Through this, the 10/27 Healing Partnership was created.

Today, this group is the community’s authority for commemoration, healing, and resources connected to this event.
